2019 Walk of Remembrance Ofrenda Display
All are welcome to participate!
We invite the community to participate by creating ofrendas (altars) for this special Dia de los Muertos Festival event. Ofrendas honor and remember loved ones who have passed. We encourage local teachers and youth group leaders to participate with their K-12 classes, after-school clubs, and/or youth groups. K-12 youth groups are eligible to receive a supply allowance.
Ofrendas may honor any person or group of your choice such as, family, military heroes, celebrities, writers, activists, community leaders (city, government, education, religion), etc.
Eligibility: Anyone may participate – youth groups ages 5-18 (classes/clubs/after-school), community organizations or clubs, business groups and individuals. Each group, club, organization or individual must be able to install your ofrenda on Saturday, Oct. 19, 10 am to 2 pm. To participate, complete the online form at right and click “Submit” at the bottom.
Label: K Space will provide an 8.5” x 11” label for your ofrenda using the information provided in your registration form.
Size: The ofrenda may not exceed 8 feet in width or 6 feet in depth.
Stand Alone: Ofrendas should be stand alone structures. Participants must bring their own tables and display structures (boxes, shelves, tablecloths, etc.). Some ofrendas will back up against a wall, some will be placed in a stairwell that can be utilized for levels of the ofrenda and some will be placed in the aisle arches of the Ritz near the stage. Drilling, nailing, or tacking into the walls is prohibited. Command 3M Damage-free hooks may be used on the walls to hang lightweight items, fabric or twinkle lights.
Lighting: The Ritz is equipped with low lighting. Flammables (wax/wick candles) are prohibited, however, you may use battery-operated candles and tea-lights.
No Sales Please: We wish to maintain a sense of reverence and memoriam for the deceased honored in the ofrenda display. This is not a vending booth. Sales are not allowed. If you wish to sell arts, crafts or food items, you must apply for an outdoor booth through our Arts & Crafts Expo application.
Security: Do not to leave valuable items or original photographs on your ofrenda. Leave copies of photos rather than originals. Attendants will be stationed at the entrance and inside the theater during open hours. You may station an attendant with your ofrenda during the event if you so choose. At closing time, attendants will usher remaining visitors out, then close and lock the doors.
